LOGOS ORPHAN AND WIDOW AID SLUM SCHOOL PROJECT FOR ORPHANS IN KENYA |
Introduction
The leaders of LOGOS ORPHAN AND WIDOW AID in Kenya have a national vision for helping orphans, particularly in slum areas. Here are some pictures
and information about it. The slum school project started in 2006 with some orphans in Nairobi, but in March 2008 most of the orphans were transferred to Migori
district and a house was rented in Uriri village between Awendo and Migori town where the children stayed. Land, buildings and rent are much cheaper,
and the project can be run more economically. When funds are available we hired two teachers here to teach the children. We are also rented two rooms in Nairobi
(in the TASSIA slums) where the teacher below taught some children. The plan is to give them an education with Christian teachers and a curriculum which has a
sound Christian bias. Their curriculum includes reading, writing, basic mathematics, Kiswahili and English languages, Christianity, and General GHC/Science
where necessary in order to know some basic things about their country. Thus they learn creationism instead of evolution, and are shielded from false religious
teaching. Solomon said, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6).

Early in 2009 a larger slum school project was started in the Tassia slum in
Nairobi. A large galvanised steel building built on a rubbish tip in the slum
was rented, and three teachers hired to teach the children. There was a mixture
of orphans, slum children, and street children. Here are some pictures of the school.

In June 2009 Logos Apostolic Orphan Aid chairman Roy Page visited Nairobi as
a visiting Pastor to the churches in Kenya. During his stay he visited the slum
school and saw that the children were going all day without food. He decided to
start a feeding program for them, and here are some of the children receiving
their midday meal.

After the feeding program was started the number of children quickly increase to over 30. This project
continued throughout 2009, but sadly it was closed at the end of February 2010 when funds
ran out abruptly. The feeding program was stopped, and the school was closed.
